At Amazing Place, we believe those living with memory loss can live full, meaningful lives. Our participants, ranging in age from their 50s to their 90s and diagnosed with mild to moderate dementia, benefit from an invigorating day program that promotes health, wellness and fellowship. In addition, our participants' families receive a well-deserved respite in addition to the comfort of knowing that their loved one is enjoying a stimulating, fulfilling day.

Research has shown that individuals with dementia benefit from daily structure and engaging in mental, physical and social activities. Each day, our participants are involved in a wide range of programs, many of which have been created or adapted to meet individual interests and strengths.

These programs include:

  • Cognitive Stimulation
  • Recreational Therapy
  • Creative Arts
  • Cultural Arts & Excursions
  • Fitness
  • Sports & Leisure
  • Spirituality

In addition to offering caregivers a respite during the day, our Family Services team also provides a variety of educational and support groups, including:

  • New family orientations
  • Monthly support groups for caregivers
  • Powerful tools for caregivers -- a six week course on caregiving essentials
  • Educational socials with guest speakers
  • Family counseling and support

An independent study of Amazing Place in 2014 demonstrated the high satisfaction of caregivers. Seventy-seven percent reported their loved ones experienced a higher quality of life because of their participation in Amazing Place. A vast majority also reported that Participants' anxiety, stress and fatigue had improved.

Amazing Place is located at 3735 Drexel, in a state-of-the-art "green" facility where the organization can serve up to 60 Participants per day. Our model day program offers five unique rooms and a beautiful garden for participant activities. Caregiver Families also have space designed specifically for their training, education, socialization and conferencing with staff.

Founded at St. Luke's United Methodist Church 20 years ago, Amazing Place is now governed by representatives from our 15 sponsoring churches, as well as five at-large members. Our faith-based mission is to provide fellowship, memory care and wellness for adults with mild to moderate memory loss, and to support their families and the community.
